Tobbe Svensson – The Swedish Kayak Fishing Club

This post is the beginning of a small series where we will talk to some of the most avid kayak anglers in Sweden. First out is Tobbe Svensson, who is one of the founders of the Swedish Kayak Fishing Club. Let’s start with a few quick questions:

Which kayak do you have?

 Native Titan 12, Native Ultimate FX, Hobie Lynx, and a few others. I only have three actually, but my oldest daughter and my girlfriend have one each as well.

How come you started kayak fishing?

I wanted something simple and convenient on the roof of my car to be able to access different waters easily. It turned out that kayak fishing was the thing for me. I was hooked from the first moment.

What is the best thing about kayak fishing?

The contact with nature, the tranquility, everything around it, camping, barbecuing, making coffee over an open fire, fixing the kayak in the garage, and of course the community.

How would you describe the way you set up your tactics in a kayak fishing competition?

My tactic is always to fill the score board with perch because I think it’s the easiest fish to catch, and you always get some bonus pike. And then upgrade, go up slightly in bait size if it feels appropriate. But I try a lot of different baits until I find something that more than one fish bites on. Then it’s just a matter of keeping on going with that bait or technique.

Now we also need to talk about the Swedish Kayak Fishing Club. What exactly is the Swedish Kayak Fishing Club and why was it started?

The club was started because kayak fishing needs to be given a greater place in the sport fishing community in Sweden. Too few people know about kayak fishing, there is almost not a single fishing trip without someone coming up to me and having lots of questions. We simply want more people to open their eyes to kayak fishing. At the same time, we want to create a larger buzz around competitions and events around kayak fishing.

And what is the goal of the club?

To get more kayak fishermen in Sweden and to get more kayak fishermen to socialize.

By being part of the club you become a member and a supporter of our community and the goal is to arrange a number of meet ups and competitions that will help all kayak anglers in Sweden to develop their skills and enjoy kayak fishing at the same time.
