Fishing with kids
This summer I spent a lot of time fishing with my four year old son. Not kayak fishing, that will come later, but getting him interested in fishing. For me this was one of the best summers of my life.
What is the best age to start fishing with kids?
As I mentioned above, my son is four years old, and for us, this was the perfect time to start fishing together. To get your child interested in fishing, you need to make it exciting for them, and to do that, you need to help them catch fish. So, my first and most important advice is to use really small hooks. This simple tip will be a great start for them to catch many fish of different species.
Bait fishing attracts different species
To attract as many bites and fish as possible I recommend fishing with bait in the beginning. Using bait with small hooks almost guarantees a lot of action for your kids. We used worms when fishing lakes and streams and small pieces of shrimp when fishing in the sea.
Fish places with easy access
I also recommend to fish places with easy access. Fishing with your kids should be easy so I would suggesst that you fish waters with many different species as close to your home as possible. Let your kid run the fishing day. If your kids are enjoying it they will stick to it.
