A year of fishing
This year I’ve fished quite a lot considering that I am also working full time and a have a four year old son with all the responsibilities that comes with that. 35 sessions is what I have managed this year. Since I fell with my bike last week and injured my shoulder, I am pretty sure that my fishing year is over and I think that I can take the opportunity to sum up my fishing year already.
Most of these 35 sessions were from my kayak, but a lot of the sessions were from shore together with my son this summer. Those days this summer are the ones I will remember for the rest of my life.
In addition to fishing in Sweden, I have fished in Thailand where I caught 7 Chao Praya catfish and 1 Siamese carp from land in a pond and we actually also fished for crab one day.
In total, I have caught 248 perch and 74 pike this year. In total, I have actually caught as many as 14 species this year. Not all of them from a kayak but I really like multiple species fishing and that I got to experience it together with my son this summer was really fun.
The competition season has as I have written before gone quite well. Five competitions, of which two second places, one fifth place and two fourth places is an okay result even if I still lack a first place medal.
The year has not offered any trophy fish either. I caught my biggest perch on the final of the Kayak angler of the year and it measured only 41 cm. And when it comes to pike, I actually don’t have anything big to brag about even though I got a really thick one in the archipelago this spring.
Even though the fishing itself has mostly been mediocre, this has been one of my best fishing years. I hope that my shoulder will get better until the ice disappears and that there will be many new adventures the coming year. Maybe it’s time for a couple of trips in pursuit of big fish instead of competitions? In the best of worlds, I might have time for both. Hopefully my son wants to go fishing next summer too.
